election blues

for the republicans, that is. :-)

quite a few of the races for the house and senate are/were extremely close, but it looks like the democrats have taken the house by a pretty solid majority. the senate is still close, but it looks like at worst it’ll be a 50/50 split. democrats also gained a lot of ground in the gubernatorial races… so good news all around.

ahhh, and big news for rumsfeld… the guy that bush said was staying at least through bush’s second term…. errrr… not so much. :-) —> linky

looks like a lot of changes are about to happen. now let’s hope the democrats don’t royally fuck up this opportunity. this could go really well, as long as they’re not completely stupid about it. anyways, i’m a pretty happy camper right now… but we’ll see what happens over the course of the next several months.

as of right now, here are some of the tallies:
senate (1 seat still too close to call, but leaning slightly democrat)
democrats: 50 (gain of 5 seats)
republicans: 49 (loss of 5 seats)

house
democrats: 228 (gain of 28 seats)
republicans: 196 (loss of 27 seats)
independents: 0 (loss of 1 seat)

governors
democrats: 28 (gain of 6 seats)
republicans: 21 (loss of 6 seats)

and for the important amendments/propositions here in missouri:
amendment 2 (stem cell research): passing
amendment 3 (cigarette tax): failing
proposition b (min wage increase): passing

clinton on fox

Monday, September 25th, 2006

i’ve been waiting for this to show up on youtube… i figured it would be good, and it was. watch bill clinton rip chris wallace a new one. lol i was really surprised to hear that clinton actually agreed to be on fox news, but after seeing it… he handled himself pretty damn well.

now think about this… if our current president were put in a similar situation, how would he have handled it? i’ll leave that up to you to decide. ;-)

part 1:

part 2:

btw… i’ll try to post another blog a bit later. i know i haven’t posted much recently, but you all know i’ve been pretty busy with the school/work thing. :-)

nip/tuck

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

uh oh. it’s that time of the year again. the season 4 premier of nip/tuck was last night… and it was a bloody good start to a hopefully bloody good season. :-)

if you haven’t checked out nip/tuck, it’s on fx tuesday nights from 9pm - 10pm. it’s a fucking amazing show. and you know a tv show is amazing if i like it. lol go watch it. it’s good. paulie gives it two golden thumbs of approval. you’ll get hooked, though. and then you may hate me. but it’s so good you’ll forget all that. so really you’ll love me for it. and then you’ll want to hug me. and give me lots of money. and your first born child. maybe not that. but i digress. nip/tuck. watch it. you’ll help the earth become a better place by doing so. :-)

crazy shiznit

wow. today is just chock full of wonderful strange things! check ‘em out:

elton john: “word up, my homies”

some guy in russia deposited about $74 to his account… but his receipt had a slightly different amount… i wish this kind of stuff would happen to me! lol

for those of you that like starbucks… you can print out this coupon to get a free iced coffee! i was a little skeptical at first… i took it in to starbucks today and asked whether it was real. the guy said that he’d give it to me if the coupon code worked… and it did! so i got a free grande iced coffee! hooray! happy days! it doesn’t expire until sept.30.two00six, so go print a couple and try ‘em out. i’m just doing my part to help out a caffeine-addicted america. :-)

ok… this is kinda gross… but also funny in a i-wouldn’t-want-this-to-happen-to-me kinda way. poo!

and here is what every household needs… an iced out fridge. for those people that can’t quite figure out what to spend their money on next.

that concludes today’s program, kids. tune in next time for an extra special episode for those “extra special” people–you know who you are.

life

Friday, August 25th, 2006

i haven’t posted a blog in a while… nothing too worthwhile anyway. :-)

life’s been going pretty good. i started school this past monday… the week went ok, but it’s going to be somewhat tough this semester. not because of the classes (i don’t think)… more so because i have to drive all the way to umsl monday through thursday. ugh. but hey… one week is down. only 15 more to go! ;-)

i got my yearly review at work yesterday (i’ve been there almost 7 years now… wow). it went well, so that’s good. maybe i’ll get that 50% raise this time. lol riiiiiiight.

tonight i am going to chill with one of my two absolute favorite drinking buddies. mary! yay, mary! i’m kinda poor, so i don’t know exactly where we’re going… but i know i’ll be drinking on the cheap. lol i haven’t chilled with her in a while, so it’ll be nice to catch up with her and see how things are going.

have a great day, and a fantastic weekend! hooray!

an explosion of flava

Friday, August 11th, 2006

i haven’t blogged about anything too awfully important in quite some time… but i figured i’d put my opinion out about this topic.

i’m sure you’ve all heard about the arrests in the united kingdom yesterday… how they were going to use liquid explosives in gatorade containers to blow up some planes. ok, so that’s bad. i won’t argue with that. however, i do think that people are overreacting quite a bit with the aftermath here. no liquids? no shampoo? no deodorant? and in the uk… no ipods, laptops, or electronic devices… i just think this is kind of absurd. i mean… we’re going to end up with people being naked on planes soon. are we that scared that we can’t allow anybody to bring anything on an airplane?

i just get the feeling that too many people are being affected by the fear factor that our current president (and company) keep throwing out there. it really bothers me. i mean… any time anything happens, or if someone disagrees with anything the administration does… bush or someone around him throws out the terrorism card. every. single. time. it’s just getting a little old. too many people keep falling for it.

i understand that we need to be aware and somewhat on alert for possible terrorist attacks. i understand that we need to have intelligence out there to scope out possible terrorists. what i don’t understand is why we are now being ruled and directed by the fact that a terrorist attack will happen.

i just don’t think banning all liquids, etc., is really going to accomplish anything. there’s a certain point when you just have to say, “ok, stop.” granted, i think we went far past that point long ago. i read a blog earlier that stated that practically anything can be turned into a makeshift weapon. i firmly agree with that. but you know what? i’m not going to sit here and worry about it. if something happens, then so be it. i guess it was meant to be. trust me, i don’t want it to happen to anyone else either. i think that people should all just get along. the reality is, however, that people will not simply get along.

i don’t typically get all political in my blogs… i don’t like confrontation, and politics and religion usually stir up confrontation. it just really frustrates me to see how a lot of people react to this type of stuff.

ok, i’m done ranting… now let’s think happy thoughts!!!! here, go see some cute kittens!!! :-)

frosty beverages

Friday, August 11th, 2006

in light of recent events, i felt this is appropriate… perhaps sierra mist knew? hmmm… i smell a conspiracy theory! lol

anyway, speaking of frosty beverages… i have been drinking the hell out of these von dutch energy drinks… they make me feel all funny on the inside. :-) i get the sugar free kind, but they’re awesome. just thought i’d share.

the sun is evil

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

this past weekend/week was pretty exhausting… it seemed to go on forever, which was pretty good. i must say, though, that after seeing the sun rise for the past 4 days….. i’m pretty over it. not that i’m ready to come back to work or anything, but i’m just ready to relax for a couple of days. lol

sunday morning, nick and i introduced the ellsworth to heather. introducing the ellsworth to anyone is always amusing, to say the least. to those of you that don’t know, it’s a dingy little diner right outside the side door of my apartment building… right there on newstead. justin and i discovered it about a year or so ago. so when you’re hung over and needing some pretty good food, it’s there for ya on a sunday morning. ;-) greg got introduced to it yesterday morning. he was highly amused.

although the food isn’t too bad, that’s not really what keeps any of us coming back. the place just has… let’s call it character. there’s always something amusing going on there. the people are all just… crazy. but that’s what makes it so interesting. meth and coke addicts coming down from their high, crazy dave, the cute little asian woman that brings your food, the cook with a peg leg… the combination of all these things is just utterly amusing to me. i have absolutely no idea how the place passes it’s health inspection, nor do i know how they stay in business. they must thrive on repeat customers. (like us? lol) everybody that comes in seems to know everyone else in there. they don’t pay us too much attention. but we always tip well. the food is cheap and good, so a good tip is well deserved.

i decided this past weekend that i’m going to paint my apartment at some point in the near future. i went by home depot to pick out some possible colors. i’m currently browsing through those to pick out some good choices.

my neighbor disappeared recently… he either moved out or died. hopefully he didn’t die… the last neighbor i had at my old place died when i was next door to him. i don’t really want there to be a paulie curse. hehe anyways, since he departed, i figured i’d have a shindig at my apartment. well, that turned into about 4 shindigs over the course of the past 4 days. they were all pretty fun (for most, with the exception of 1… but we won’t get into that ;-) ). hopefully everybody had a blast. i know i did.

well, i’m draggin on now. so i’m gonna quit now. :-) have a fantastic day!

blak things

Friday, June 30th, 2006

i wandering into a local gas station near work a little while ago in search of an energy drink. while perusing the vast drink selection, i happened upon a bottle of coca-cola blak. i read about it a while back, but i never found it anywhere around st. louis. it’s basically coca-cola infused with coffee. does that sound strange? yeah, well it is. it’s not really awful. but then again, it’s not really good, either. it’s just kinda… there. my brain got confused with the mixing of tastes… it’s like… ooooo, cola! ummm, no, i mean coffee! umm… maybe not… oh, this is just weird!

so i don’t think i’ll be buying it again. but if you like the idea of a bubbly, carbonated coffee beverage, then try it out. maybe your brain can handle that combination better than my own. :-)

here’s a fabulous picture of a model posing with the oh-so-pretty bottle of coca-cola blak (ok, he’s not really a model… it’s my coworker, kyle):
